Look inside this small California cottage: it's packed with eclectic style

Decorating a rental home presents a few challenges, but it doesn't mean you have to settle for blah design. No one proves this better than Courtney of the blog A Little Glass Box. Renting a small two-bedroom home in California didn't stop her from going big and bold with her decorating choices.
The home features bright colors, daring wall decor, and clever DIY projects. The home already had good bones with its interesting architectural details like exposed beams and wood planked ceilings. But Courtney decided to take it up a notch with her eclectic design. Take the full tour of her cottage below.

The living room features neutral furniture accented with colorful accessories. A bright orange rug and patterned pillows add interest to a mostly beige room. Plenty of windows allow the space to be bathed in natural light.
A pseudo mudroom is created with a bench and wall hooks to save on space. The bookshelf provides storage as well as a great spot to display vintage accessories.
The dining room decor features unique and rustic accessories. The chairs from IKEA are proof you don't have to break the bank to create an inviting dining space.
The kitchen features warm wood cabinetry and a country island, creating a cozy and welcoming space to whip up a home cooked meal.
The kid bedroom is whimsical and playful with plenty of color. A fabric banner at the end of the bed is an inexpensive and simple project, and a great way to accent a color scheme and add fun textiles to the space.
The DIY painted dresser makes a gorgeous and unique addition to the room. The gallery wall features artwork that doesn't take itself to seriously - perfect for a child's room.
The "Let's Spoon" phrase spelled out in marquee lettering is the star of the show when it comes to the master bedroom decor. Courtney proves that going for the unexpected choice can make a big impact.

Without a lot of square footage or cabinetry to work with, a effective solution is to think about your vertical space - the walls! Adding open shelving adds more storage without taking up precious floor space.
