Check out this bright and happy cottage: the red accented interior is so cute

Building guest cottages, or laneway homes, has become a popular movement in Vancouver. These mini houses are typically built in the backyard of an existing property, and help to increase neighborhood density while still preserving the community. They're also a great way to provide extra income for their owners by using them as rental homes.
This cute-as-button laneway home was built by Lanefab, an integrated design/build company that crafts custom laneway houses with design quality and energy efficiency as core values. At just over 1,000 square feet; the cottage still manages to pack in two bedrooms, living and dining spaces, plus a gorgeous kitchen. Check out the inspiring interior below!

The open floor plan downstairs includes a living room, dining room, and kitchen. The décor is cottage style with a contemporary twist.
The red dining chairs are a great burst of color in an otherwise neutral space. The huge mirror next to the dining table reflects light and makes the small area feel big and bright.
Touches of red are carried throughout the home. Choosing a consistent color palette is a great way to create continuity in a home. In the living room a red antique roller chest and red accessories give the space a playful vibe.
French doors allow access to the porch and bring in light and nature. A good strategy when decorating is to keep larger pieces like furniture and rugs neutral, and use smaller priced items like artwork and accessories to bring in the color.
The entrance opens up to a stairway leading to the bedrooms. An over-sized light fixture can make a beautiful statement piece in a small dining area.
The bedroom décor is lovely and simple, continuing the red theme in the patterned bedding. Vaulted ceilings and skylights help the room feel spacious.

The second bedroom utilizes the same whimsical bedding as the first bedroom. Wall shelves and sconces are used in place of side tables and lamps, a great trick when you're short on square footage.
