Look inside this nautical inspired guest cottage oozing with charm

When Susan of Maple and Magnolia decided to renovate her guest cottage, she got a little in over her head. After ripping out the carpet and removing appliances all on her own, she eventually realized the job was bigger than she anticipated. Without skipping a beat, she called in the professionals to help with drywall, lighting installation, and new plumbing fixtures.
With a fresh blank slate ready for decor, she took over from there. The cottage is now a bright and happy nautical dream space. She saved money by furnishing it with antiques, estate sale finds, and DIY projects. The cottage includes a living space, a small farmhouse kitchen, a guest bedroom, and a sewing studio. Take a look inside!
The main living space is filled with red, white, and blue decor for a patriotic nautical look. The wall decor features a wood sign made by a friend and a vintage golf flag, among other treasures.
When looking for wall art, remember to keep non-convention items in mind - like these sun hats. The organizer box is perfect for displaying beach mementos and can be changed out easily if the mood strikes.
Mirrors are a great way to make a small space feel bigger. Natural elements help to warm up a room, like this woven lamp and rope ball.
Before the kitchen was renovated, Susan described it as full of "skeevy ickiness". With the help of her contractor she turned it into an adorable farmhouse style kitchen.
Susan made the shelves herself by staining cedar boards from her local hardware store. The chest was another DIY project, an estate sale find that she refinished with chalk paint.
The bedroom is full of country charm. Susan made the bed and breakfast wooden sign hanging above the bed. She bargain shopped for the rest of the room - the nightstands are second hand furniture and bed is from IKEA.
The plate arrangement was created using blue and white plates that Susan has collected from thrift stores. The desk is actually a dining table that she refinished.
More antiques and thrift store finds are found in the studio. The sewing table is the star of the show - an antique piece full of character. The space also features plenty of baskets for attractive yet functional storage.
