Check out this beautiful guest house that was once a garage

When Allison Lundeen of the blog Proverbs 31 Girl decided to change the little garage on her property into a guest house, she had a clear vision. She wanted to create a cozy and welcoming retreat for her guests in her signature cottage style without breaking the bank. Her vision came to life with the help of the handy skills of her husband and father-in-law.
Getting the garage to guest house standards was no small feat. On the exterior, Lundeen added siding and landscaping while replacing the garage for a window. Plus, she added an awning over the entrance door. The interior went through a huge transformation as well. The low ceilings were raised; the walls and floors were insulated; sheetrock was installed along with new flooring. Check out the beautiful results below.

Lundeen made these window boxes herself with scrap wood, shelf brackets, and her power tool skills. They add great character and detail to the exterior of the house.
The interior features another DIY project, the board and batten detail on the walls. Taking the technique all the way up to the top of the wall accentuates the vaulted ceiling. The interior color palette is made up of cozy neutrals and crisp whites.
Since the guest house is not always occupied, it didn't make sense to put too much money into the decorating. Thrift store finds, sale items, and second hand furniture make up the majority of the items.
The fireplace is electric and fits perfectly between the two windows. The chairs create a nice sitting area and are actually light pink! They are covered in slipcovers.
Lundeen made the pom-pom trimmed pillows. Choosing all the textiles in white and beige help to make the small space feel uniform and bright.
An armoire is a handy piece to store guests' clothes and other items when a closet is not available. Tile flooring was installed at the entry, and wood laminate was installed throughout the rest of the house.
White curtains soften up this wall. The framed deer heads add a playful and whimsical touch to the decor.

Isn't it a darling little guest house? A convenient sidewalk leads from the cottage to the main house about 10 feet away.
