Chris and Kelly moved into their converted bus in October 2013. According to Just Right Bus, the two decided to make the move to tiny living after much thought. The site states, "Although we were ways away from any permanent damage, we started to dread the idea of becoming stuck in the stuff-filled world of so many Americans drowning in debt."
In answer to frequently asked questions, they state that they bought the bus in Florida. The total cost of conversion and the bus came in between $15,000 to $17,000. The fact that the bus was actually used to transport children to school is rather apropos since the couple lived in the bus while Chris finished up going through medical school. They bought the bus in March 2013 and after six months of work, moved into their dream home and "never looked back."
Their Facebook page states that the converted bus gives the couple 200 square feet (19 square meters) of living space. Most of the work, Chris and Kelly did with the help of friends and family members.
Kelly has an alcohol stove with an oven on which to cook. The wood cabinetry and floors warm up the entire space. A full-sized refrigerator allows them to keep plenty of food in the bus.
Curtains are used to separate the "rooms" within the bus.
The bathtub is "a water trough bathtub with a claw foot tub handheld shower nozzle." This set-up is perfect for sitting showers. The blue tile backsplash goes with the curtains in the interior.
Since the bus has off-the-grid capabilities, the toilet is composting.
Closet space is set up along the sides of the bus.
Extra shelves above the clothes rod act perfectly as a dresser.
At the back of the bus is the bedroom. The white walls and ceilings of the bus keep the space nice and bright.
Although Chris is done with medical school and moving on to his residency and they may not be able to live in the bus anymore, the couple intends to keep the bus as an RV. They have many more trips planned and memories to create. As they move forward, the only looking back they will be doing will be on great times.
