What can you do with a 1904 garage? Check this out

There are so many tiny houses in Portland, Ore., that I am beginning to wonder that, if you go there, you would find the skyscrapers are only 50 feet high and you have to duck to go under a street light.
Many in Portland have, indeed, embraced the idea of living small. With that as a background, we found a renovated 1904 garage that once held your great, great grandfather's shiny, new Oldsmobile, but now, weighing in at 250-square-feet, includes a queen-sized bed, an amply-sized bathroom, a high, pyramid-shaped ceiling and a kitchen that happens to be in the bedroom.

This one-room gem (plus a bathroom) shows what you can do with the idea of living small. It's handsome, orderly and even refined. The exterior is deceptively demure. It looks like a quaint building, that may have been a coachman's sleeping quarters if you went back far enough.
Let's take a tour and see what the designers have done to turn a one-bay garage into a terrific studio apartment.
In this one-room studio apartment, the bed shares space with the kitchen. The home is listed amongst Portland's rental apartments with the notation that it has one bed, but no bedroom, as it were.
The stainless steel kitchen counter is a nice touch. All that white paint also works, helping the room appear much bigger than it really is. In addition, the ceiling is very tall, as there is no bedroom loft in this apartment.
The accommodations are spare, but comfy and with all the necessities intact. That's a small refrigerator under the counter and there's a two-burner stove and a toaster oven when you need it.
I'm not sure what that is on the right-hand wall. Anyone care to guess?
The bathroom is completely functional, and includes a shower over a bathtub.

And, yes, this studio apartment is set back from the road -- given it used to be a garage -- which makes it a quiet, little enclave that is also close to the bustling social life in Portland. It is only walking distance from "great restaurants, cafes, wine bars and shops," says the Airbnb listing. And it also has a full sized shower and a clothes washer and dryer, just in case you need them, too.
