Tour this tiny cottage: the remodeled interior is truly a dream

This charming cottage of only 540 square feet is located on Sauvie Island, an agricultural island 15 minutes north of Portland. The house has an interesting past; it was originally built in the 1940s as a dwelling for shipyard workers. The current owners purchased the property in 2008 and remodeled it using reclaimed materials. The result is a gorgeous, efficient, and unique home for their young family.
The tiny size of the cottage doesn’t stop the family from hosting visitors. This is according to the website of the home’s interior designer, Jessica Helgerson Interior Design: “Despite its size, the house is welcoming and comfortable and nearly every weekend it is full of family and friends coming from Portland to enjoy a day in the countryside.” Take the full tour below, and you’ll be dreaming of your own island cottage!

When the house was remodeled, the old roof was replaced with a green roof or "living roof". It's planted with moss and ferns from the nearby river.
The reclaimed wood on the walls was found in one of the barns on the five acre property. The vaulted ceilings help the small space feel spacious.
Opposite the kitchen and dining area are these built in sofas and bookshelves. The sofas feature drawers for extra storage.
The ladder leads up the parents' cozy sleeping loft.
The bunk beds and pull-out closet in the kids' bedroom maximize square footage. The all white color scheme keeps the space clean and bright.
The monochromatic look continues into the bathroom with a beautiful salvaged tub.
